Mascara is essential in every woman’s make- up bag and you can soon find yourself wasting money on bad ones. So I thought I’d write about a few I’ve tried and tested!

Soap and Glory- Thick and Fast (currently free with this month’s ELLE magazine) usually £10.00

I was a little weary of this one, usually when something is free it’s normally for a reason. Unfortunately this freebie hasn’t broke the mould. The brush promises great big thick lashes with no clumps, its even got a rubber brush which I normally would have every faith in, but for some reason all I kept getting was clumps, I also found it didn’t not lengthen my lashes anywhere near as much as other mascara’s I have used. It’s real shame as it was free! I haven’t tried any other products in Soap and Glory’s make up range, but I have to say this has put me off a little. They probably need to stick to making the soap! (O dear- it’s been a long day)

Blink+ Go Long Lasting Mascara – Free with my December Glossy Box- Usually

I didn’t give a particularly in-depth review on this in my December Glossy Box as I hadn’t actually used it yet. However due to an emergency mascara drought in my house I gave it a go! The solution is very thick and you can really feel it weighing your lashes down, it also made my top and bottom lashes stick together a bit. Not an pleasant feeling. The worst was yet to come, trying to remove the mascara was very difficult after I had washed my face with cleanser,  it began to peel off my lashes like the glue you get on the front of a magazine gluing a free gift to it. Rather painful to remove actually. Would definitely not recommend this to anyone who wants keep all their eyelashes!

MaxFactor False Lash Effect – Full Lashes Natural Look- £10.99

This is basically the best mascara I have ever brought. I would swear by it every time. It gives you length without clumps, definition and just enough thickness without being over the top for the day- time. I would trust any of the Maxfactor mascaras to be honest, I’ve used the Fusion and the Master Piece and I was really impressed with both. I would urge you to try this to see for yourself!

Last Friday the New U.S. comedy tv series ‘New Girl’ went out on Channel 4. I managed to get hold off the first 9 episodes which have already aired in the U.S. and have already watched them all. The show is centered around Zooey Deschanel’s character Jess who after a break-up, moves in with 3 guys. She’s a little bit crazy but you can’t help but love her! I found myself falling in love with her wardrobe whilst watching it for 4 hours straight, so I’ve put together a few items to recreate some of her looks from the show.

Annoyingly as is always the case with the American TV shows there is now a massive break before the second half of the series comes out! Meanwhile I’ll be watching all the episodes again on Ch4 at 8.30pm on Fridays (repeated on a Saturday at 11.50am incase you miss it!) I would throughly recommend watching it. Hope you find it as funny as I did! Episode 4 is brilliant!

Once again this month’s Glossy Box review is very late! But at least it’s given me time to properly use the products to give a better and more honest review! The December Glossy box was full of lots of lovely goodies as you can see in the picture, really impressed with it and well worth my £12.95! By the way Ive had a lot of people ask me how they can get one of these boxes so… If you just click on the link here, just click now, there is also a similar samples box called JolieBox UK which I might sign up to next month, check it out here.

MeMeMe Seventh Heaven Face Base £15.00

I would really recommend this primer. It feels really light on the skin and gave it a really nice texture and smoothness to aid with the application of my foundation. It didn’t feel greasy either which has been the case with some primers I have bought before. It smells really nice as well which is a bonus. The sample size is a nice amount and will probably last a while as I dont wear it that often. This is quite expensive but primer is a luxury product and I’m yet to come across a good cheaper one.

Rituals Foaming Shower Gel £6.50 Mandarin and Mint

This was probably the product I was most surprised about. It’s actually really nice, it’s a bit strange to get excited about shower gel so I wont go on too long. But it has a really nice smell and I like that it foams and it feel quite luxurious on the skin. I wish I’d receive the Yogi Flow pink bottled gel, mainly for aesthetic purposes and the scent sounds gorgeous! – Indian Rose and Almond Oil might splash out when I run out of the other.

Deborah Lippmann Razzle Dazzle Nail Polish  (£16.00) & Stripper To Go Removal Glove (£14.00 for 6 sachets)

This was my favourite of all the samples this month. The colour looks fab over the top of my Models Own shade- Purple Grey. (Original name there Models own!). Its really glittery and a lovely berry shade. need sa coat of clear over the top to make it last. Although, again for me , £16.00 is way too pricey for a nail polish. I’d go £10 at max if it was something really special.Heres a better picture of it here. The website has some gorgeous shades though and some lovely glittery ones, have a look here. I don’t want to waste my nail polish removal glove yet so I havent used it. I like to keep things like that for emergencies. I’m not sure what kind of emergency would require a nail polish removal glove but there we go!

Blink + Go High Definition Mascara

To be honest I havent tried this yet but it’s a full size sample, which is great as it would be £12.95 full price. The brush however is not a silicone brush so I’m doubtful that it will be able to perform as well as my current mascara, False Lash Effect by Max Factor which is great value for money and better than any high end mascara I’ve tried. I’ve never heard of the Blink + Go brand before either but looking at their site they also do false eye lashes in some nice styles if you care to have a browse.

Cargo Class Lip Gloss $14.00/ £8.96

Not going to bang on too much about this one as I dont wear or like lipgloss. If it had been a darker shade than the one you see pictured I may have tried it but to be honest I’ll probably end up throwing it away! But the rest of my samples more than make up for  this one.

I had to do a double-take when I saw these little beauties on the Benefit counter at my local Boots store. I hadn’t even realised Benefit did false eyelashes! They come in four different styles, the one I purchased and the ones in the picture above are the ‘Pin Up Lash’ style. I like my false eyelashes to look quite feathery in appearance and slightly longer than my own, so these were perfect for me. They retail at £11.50 at Boots, the little packets does not include the glue as this is sold separately, but I have so many little tubes from past pairs of eyelashes that I didn’t need to buy more. Rather strangely their false lash collection is nowhere to be seen on the Benefit website itself, they need to sort that out! I have tracked them down on this site here though. They may just be a contender for my new favourite false lashes. I normally buy the Mister Mascara full lash kit which comes highly recommend by myself and my friend who have re-bought them a few times now. The set comes with a miniature pair of tweezers to help with application. Available to purchase on ASOS.

I discovered this brand whilst browsing through lifestyle magazine in Dubai a couple of years ago. I literally saw an advert with arrows coming out of eyelashes and 33% written next to it. I didn’t need anymore information. So once I returned to england I looked up their website. Talika are a french based company who create products for the aftercare of eyelashes, eyebrows, skin, nails and hands. Their website can be found here where you can read all about the kind of product they offer. Now the product which I have tried and tested is the Lipocils Eyelash Treatment Gel. I would throughly recommend it, though I do mean it when I say to see any results it must be applied at least once a day before bed if not twice. Mine little bottle has lasted a very long time as I do sometimes forget to use it for a few weeks. But when used correct you really can notice an improvement in the length and thickness of your lashes. Its applied as you would do a mascara, it dries quickly and dosent cause any irritation to the eyes.

I was pleased to see that House of Fraser have just introduced this brand into their beauty departments and the gel is available to buy in their stores along with some of Talika’s other products. Though I was a little disappointed to see that they had retailed it at £23.00 as I had bought mine for £14.00. However after doing a bit of shopping around I have found it for £14.00 on this site www.perfumeshopping.com. Make sure it is the version with Lipocils in the name as this is the ingredient which lengthens and promotes growth. I have noticed they also have a similar product called Lipocils Expert which darkens and naturally curls, though this is priced at £27.00. Unfortunately I can’t find it for any cheaper, I imagine because it’s still quite a new available to purchase here.

One product I would however not recommend buying is the Lash Extender. Though the name may imply otherwise it certainly didn’t extend my eyelashes. At all. The carbon fibres which are supposed to be applied to the lash, post mascara application and before the mascara has dried just tend to clump up which being applied. They are not very easy to apply at all, you will find yourself spending more time cleaning up the mess they’ve made than you have actually putting your make on. God forbid if you get one of the fibres in your eye! Other than this I would definitely recommend trying either of the other products I have mentioned.

I had a lovely Christmas spending it with my family who are visiting from the States. This year I decided to ask for some useful things that I would need once I eventually move out, for my ‘bottom draw’ as my nanny calls it. I received a cutlery set, the good house keeping cookbook, colanders, OXO salt and pepper mills, lasagne dish & silicone cupcake cases. Also vouchers to buy myself  my very first Denby dinner set from my Aunty! I have my eye on the Halo collection but im going to go and look at it in the shop to see what it looks like “in the flesh”. I also got a Samsung 32″ SMART TV which will be very useful and once I have bought myself a dongle for the back of it I will be able to watch BBC iPlayer & 4OD etc on it. Oh and a pandora bracelet and 5 charms including, the Hippo, the Budda, the Hedgehog, Floral ball and a Stopper!!

I also asked my mum for some Clinique items including their All About Lips Lip Balm (fantastic under lipsticks or on its own) and the Moisture Surge Gel which I can’t recommend enough. I have had a sample size of the Moisture Surge Gel and I’ve been really impressed. Though it is it quite expensive for a full size pot, I would definitely recommend spending a bit extra on a moisturiser especially if you have combination skin, like mine, which gets dried out very easily but is also very sensitive to over-oily products.

Really pleased with everything I have had and have been well and truly spoilt!

Some of the lovely items I received

1. Moisture Surge Moisturising Gel – Clinique

2. Silver Foil Jumper – Miss Selfridge

3.OXO Salt and Pepper Mills – Lakeland

4. Flyweight Sapper Jacket in Olive with Pink Rose Liberty Print Lining (Limited Edition)-Barbour

5. All About Lips Lip Balm – Clinique

Philip Kingsley Moisture Balancing Shampoo and Conditioner

I purchased these after my last appointment at my hairdressers as I was in need a of a shampoo and conditioner that was gentle enough not to wash out my colour and make sure my highlights don’t go too brassy. After using them for the last two weeks religiously I’m quite impressed. The shampoo retails at £16.00 and the conditioner at £14.00 which is pretty pricey and I would never normally spend that kind of money on hair products but as it was Christmas I thought I’d treat myself. My hair colour is still looking a nice tone of brown and no signs of the reddish tinge I had been experiencing a few weeks after my other appointments. I have quite naturally oily hair which unfortunately means I need to wash mine every day. But I have noticed that when I wake up my hair dosent look as bad as usual using this shampoo. I’d definitely consider re-purchasing these once I have used them up. Available to purchase here.

I have been really busy these last few weeks, though I couldn’t actually tell you what I’v done as I cant even remember but every evening seems to of been consumed with something! So apologies my review this month is a couple of weeks late. The theme of the Novembers’ box was based around ideas for good christmas gifts. There was a good range of products in this months box though the use of a perfume sample as a product in every box is starting to get a bit boring I haven’t mentioned it below as I wasn’t keen so I dont want to bore you with my opinion.

Monu Professional Skincare Revitalising Moisturiser

I am always on the look out for a good moisturiser particularly around this time of year my skin easily dehydrates, admittedly through my over use of the car heaters every morning on my poor skin. I wasn’t very keen on the texture of the cream it felt like it was clogging my pores and didn’t keep my skin hydrated even for half a day. Though the price for the full size isn’t actually too bad at £16.95. I was disappointed to see that I didn’t get the Skin Perfecter from Monu instead to try might try and find some reviews on this as its quite reasonably priced as well.

FC5 Ultra-Hydrating Hand Creme

I was pleasantly surprised by this product I really rate it, it has a lovely scent with isn’t over powering and is very fresh. It also locks in the moisture for quite a long time with re-application only necessary after I’d washed my hands. Though I have just learned it’s £19.00 for full size I shall make my little sample last a little while longer! It would make a lovely present for your Grandma or Mum though.

Dead Sea Spa Magik Bath Salts

I haven’t actually tried these yet as I haven’t had chance but bath salts are always my worst nightmare as christmas presents, I alway seem to store them for years and never use them, maybe these will change my mind we will see!

Nail Rocks Nail Wraps

I am really looking forward to using these I am really into doing various nail designs at the moment if you have seen some of my earlier posts. I wanted to use these for a special occasion so might wear them over christmas but they are a great idea for friends pressies. I have already seen that they are available on Misguided.com for £6 so if they work I might just invest in some more as they are quite affordable.

I have been meaning to do this post for a little while, but I thought I’d properly give the products test runs before reviewing. I preferred this box to the last, there were more products that I would actually use with the exception of the perfume samples. This month’s theme was six products instead of the usual five as it was their 6th box. Here are my reviews below…

Dermalogica MultiVitamin Thermafoliant & Multi Vitamin Power Recover Masque

I tend to love anything with “foliant” in the name, so my eyes lit up when I saw this little pair. Although the description says “Age Smart” I really don’t think it’s limited to older skin but hopefully it will delay my ageing process! That name could potentially put off people from buying it. The little beads in the creamy exfoliant weren’t harsh against my skin and it felt like it was actually removing the dead skin debris away (I know it sound nasty but we all have it!). My face felt very smooth afterwards but I’d say it definitely needs to be used along side the Moisture masque also pictured. This masque I left on my skin for over the recommended time but my skin didn’t feel greasy or tight after it worked really well. Unfortunately the bad news is, I would probably never be able to afford to buy the full size product which is a real shame as it actually seems to work. The Thermafoliant is priced at £40.50 and the moisture masque is priced at £33.00.

Leighton Denny Expert Nails- Colour and Care

This nail polish colour is a bit wishy washy for me, not something I would really wear. It has a nice brush and packaging and it dries in around the same amount of time a normall polish would. I checked out the website I would have preferred a brighter pink along the lines of “All about me” shade. Probably a little over priced for a nail polish also-I would rarely spend over £5. These polishes are priced at £11.00.

Stila Smudge Stick – Waterproof Eyeliner (In Moray)

I like receiving make-up in the glossy boxes- I tend to stick to safe products for my day make up; neutral shadows, black eyeliner on top lids and a little pink blusher. So this might have been more useful in Black so I could test it on a day to day basis. It went on really smoothly and the glitter looks great for more of an evening look and it wasn’t any problem to take off with regular makeup cleanser. Again far too expensive as an eyeliner at £13.00 I go through them too quickly to spend the money.

Robert Piguet Eau de Parfums

These again were a bit of a disappointment for me,I would love to find one that I love but as I mentioned last month I find it really hard to change from the scent I’ve worn for years- Vera Wang Princess. If I had to pick the nicest it would have to be the Pink one as it was quite floral.

Dermalogica Age Smart Renewal Lip Complex

To end on a good note. I was pleasantly surprised to see the 6th product in my box as I was about to splash out on the Clinique All About Lips Balm- to get ready for winter- but I can probably wait till next month now and save the pennies. It is an absolutely tiny sample- but this its great to carry in your handbag for those emergency dry lip situations! It’s probably a little too glossy for me but it does work and the applicator is really easy to use without using fingers. I do prefer the texture and look of the cheaper Clinique version gives- though I wish the applicator was more like this one as it is currently a pump bottle which is a really pain sometimes. Full size price for the Dermalogica Lip Balm is £22.00.

I’ve taken too long to write this post. I think if you know me personally you’ll have been bored to tears already with me banging on about a boutique in Cheltenham called Olive! I even sent my hairdresser there after she kept asking where I had got various item from and she wasn’t disappointed. I literally love it all and if I could, I would probably spend my whole months salary  in there. It was only last night when I realised, whilst packing for paris, that 80% of the things I packed were from there. I love it in there for several reasons first of all the stock is always changing, every time you go in there is something new as they only have 1 or 2 of each size and design so things go fast- I like to use to this excuse to cover up my slightly unhealthy impulsive buying habits ” well it wont be hear next week so I need it now”! I love that there is a good mix of classics and on trend pieces, I believe the stock is all mainly sourced from Asia and areas around their so it is not available in any other shops! Nothing worse than seeing somebody in the same Topshop dress on a night out, (face>palm!)

The shop itself is a piece of art, spread over 3 floors; gorgeous stripped back wooden floorboards run throughout, the walls are finished in neutral shades so the product can really stand out. Scattered throughout are old nostalgic items such as an old bikes, redundant type writers, industrial lampshades and old desks used as POS stands. The outfits I’m wearing in the pictures above are both from Olive apart from the belt which is an old one from Warehouse. I shall be putting up a few more outfits with pieces from Olive by the end of the week when I do my Style Diary from Paris! I urge you to go and check it out if you are in the Cheltenham area, or even if your not, it’s on 7 Pitville Street (Around the corner from M&S), I guarantee if you like what you see in the pictures on their Facebook Page and their Blog (which has some beautiful photography) then you will come out of there with something!

Thanks for Reading x

After reading about Glossy Box on blogger LLYMLRS page, I decided to sign up and give it ago myself. I was delighted after a month and half’s wait to see my Glossy Box sat in my post box when I got home from work today. I love the little brown and pink box it all comes in, I’m a bit of a horder so this I’m sure, with be used to keep some sort of arty-farty craft bits in before long. The general presentation of the box is beautiful in itself. One box costs £10.00 and the postage takes it up to £12.95. I think this is pretty good value for money considering the sample sizes.

This month the theme of the Glossy Box was “5 future classics” and they were as follows:

HD Brows and Eyes Palette

I already love this- look at the sample size for a start- this will last me a while. A neutral eye palette is an absolute MUST in any make up bag, I’m currently using a Chanel one, however the shades are just a little too shimmery. So this HD brows palette is great as it’s matte! It’s so hard to find a reasonably priced matte neutral eyeshadow palette (believe me I’ve looked). I think I will mainly use it as an eye palette rather than for my brows as I feel I look silly with a heavier brow, but this may come in handy when I would like a little bit more definition.

L’Oreal Professional – Mythic Oil

This also looks great, packaging was very elegant and looked a little more special than most shampoos and the size is brilliant -125ml! I haven’t used it yet but will do tomorrow before my trip to hairdressers. Hopefully it will disguise my super-dry ends from the hairdresser so she dosent cut too much off as I thing Im going to grown my style out to the shoulders. I find that most shampoos that boast they can make your hair shiny, often just make it really oily and limp. I shall be reporting back if this is the case but hopefully the Mythic Oil can crush this little “myth” :o P

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse

To be quite honest before I read the card and properly looked at the bottle, I thought this was some hideous gold nail varnish! But I was relieved to find that it was for the skin. I have sampled a smidgen on my hand it feels nice to apply and not greasy (hence dry oil! DUH!) I will experiment next week applying it withand underneath my make up to see what kind of effect it gives, but it’s quite an interesting one- again plenty in the sample to keep me going for a little while.

Plum by Mary Greenwell

I am very fussy with my perfumes, I don’t like smelling too strong or older than I am. Plum by Mary Greenwell was a little too “grown up” for me. I could smell the essence of plum but the scent that makes it a future classic is just too pungent for me, but it might just be me but each to their own and all that. I’ve been wearing Princess by Vera Wang for about four years now so it’s going to take a pretty good perfume to change my mind!

StriVectin SD Eye Concentrate

Again my instant reaction to this was “O it’s just another pointless anti-wrinkle eye cream that dosent work”, but after reading a little more into the product I was pleasantly surprised to realise that it actually also could be beneficial for dark eye circles, which unfortunately I am not stranger too. I can’t step out in public without some sort of concealer under my eyes to disguise the buggers. My absolute favourite at the moment is Benefit’s Industrial Strength concealer – Boing! Not cakey or too translucent. Though it certainly wont last me “2 years” as the sales woman at the Benefit stand in Boots in Worcester claimed! She really shouldn’t go round saying that- have you ever had dark eye circles woman?? I bought my pot back in July and although it’s lasted well I will be replacing it within the next month! Anyway I digress, back to the eye-cream, it states on the bottle that this is a 2 week supply, I have tried the product, it tingles a little after the application though this leads me to believe it is actually doing something. I hopefully will see some improvement over the next week or so.

Thanks for reading, feel free to leave comments!
